Class-D is the training school for aspiring youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 years. The race cars are powered by 125cc two-stroke, or 250cc four-stroke motorcycle engines and can reach speeds up to 140 km/h. Driven by a six speed gearbox, it is the only racing formula (in South Africa) that will allow youngsters less than 13 years of age to race a race car with gears. Running costs are low as there are very few specialist components and they use very affordable tyres, making them great father-son projects.
Used class-D cars can be purchased from R6,000 to R25,000 depending on age and condition.
